In Vitro Fertilisation at KIMS Cuddles, Electronic City, Bengaluru
From the time the first IVF baby was born in 1978, the technology has transformed from an experimental procedure into the most reliably effective assisted reproduction treatment available. Millions of children exist who would not have been born without it. For couples and individuals for whom simpler treatments have not worked, or for whom the fertility diagnosis makes simpler treatments unlikely to succeed, IVF represents the most direct route to the outcome they are hoping for.
At KIMS Cuddles at KIMS Hospitals, Electronic City, IVF is performed by an experienced reproductive medicine team within a specialist fertility unit equipped with a high-quality embryology laboratory. For couples and individuals across Electronic City, Neeladri Nagar, Hosur Road, and South Bengaluru, this level of specialist IVF care is now available locally.
What IVF Is
In vitro fertilisation literally means fertilisation in glass. Eggs are collected from the ovaries, combined with sperm in the embryology laboratory, and the resulting embryos are cultured until they reach the blastocyst stage before the most suitable one is transferred to the uterus. The process bypasses the fallopian tubes entirely, making it effective even when the tubes are blocked or absent.
IVF is indicated in a range of clinical situations including blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, moderate to severe male factor infertility, unexplained infertility where simpler treatments have been unsuccessful, diminished ovarian reserve, PMOS where ovulation induction and IUI have not produced a pregnancy, endometriosis, and situations where preimplantation genetic testing of embryos is required.
The IVF Process at Electronic City
Initial Assessment
Before beginning an IVF cycle, both partners undergo a comprehensive fertility assessment. For the woman, this includes AMH and antral follicle count to assess ovarian reserve, uterine assessment through hysteroscopy or saline sonography, hormonal profiling, and relevant infectious disease screening. For the male partner, a detailed semen analysis is performed. The results of this assessment guide the personalisation of the IVF protocol.
Egg Retrieval
Once the follicles are the right size, a trigger injection is given and egg retrieval is arranged for thirty-six hours later. The operation is performed under anaesthesia, takes around twenty to thirty minutes and involves guided suction of fluid from each follicle with a transvaginal needle. It is normal to experience mild bloating and discomfort for 1-2 days. Our embryology laboratory will examine the eggs promptly.
Fertilisation
On the egg retrieval day, the male partner gives a semen sample, which is prepared in our andrology laboratory. Mature eggs are combined with sperm either through conventional insemination or ICSI depending on the parameters of the semen and previous fertilisation history. Fertilisation is confirmed the following morning and the embryos are cultured over the next five to six days.
Embryo Development and Selection
Our embryology team analyses the development of the embryos on a regular basis and examines cell division, symmetry and shape at each stage. On day five or six, embryos are developed to the blastocyst stage and evaluated for transfer or vitrification. The blastocyst stage provides higher implantation rates than earlier stage embryo transfer and allows better selection of the most viable embryos.
Where preimplantation genetic testing has been requested, a biopsy of cells from the trophectoderm of the blastocyst is performed at this stage and sent for chromosomal or genetic analysis before transfer.
Embryo Transfer
A single embryo is transferred to the uterine cavity through a fine catheter under ultrasound guidance. The procedure takes approximately fifteen minutes, requires no anaesthesia, and causes minimal discomfort. Remaining good-quality embryos are vitrified and stored for future use.
A pregnancy blood test is performed fourteen days after transfer. A positive result is confirmed with an early ultrasound two weeks later.
Success Rates
IVF success rates depend primarily on the woman's age, the underlying diagnosis, and the quality of the embryos available. Our team provides specific, realistic information about the success rates applicable to each individual's situation before treatment begins, covering both per-cycle and cumulative rates across multiple attempts.
