Top foods that boost sperm quality and increase your chances

Factors such as zinc deficiency or lack of vitamins have been attributed to a low sperm count. Making certain nutritional changes is a great way to boost your sperm count and quality. If you’re trying to conceive, including these foods in your diet may be beneficial to your chances:

  1. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate contains amino acids that have been proven to double sperm and semen volume. It is also high in antioxidants, which are great against the harmful effects of free radicals found in pollution and toxins, and are linked to male infertility. However, make sure you don’t overdo chocolate intake as it may cause you to gain weight and lead to imbalance in testosterone. This may lower your sperm count. Keep it to a couple of bites a day for best results.

  1. Garlic

It is said that garlic is great for sperm motility. It contains two elements – allicin, which improves blood flow to their sexual organs and protects sperm from damage, and selenium, which is an antioxidant that improves sperm motility. Eating one or two cloves a day can help boost your chances to conceiving.

  1. Bananas

Bananas have also been found to increase male libido and regulate sex hormones because of an enzyme called bromelain. They are also full of vitamins C, A and B1, which will boost the male body’s ability to produce sperm.

  1. Broccoli

Vitamin A deficiency is one of the most common causes of low fertility. Lack of vitamin A makes a man’s sperm sluggish. Eating foods such as broccoli that are full of vitamin A can help increase your chances. Apart from this, red peppers, spinach, apricots, sweet potatoes and carrots are also rich sources of vitamin A.

  1. Walnuts

Omega-3 fatty acids help increase sperm count and boost blood flow to the genitals. Walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3. They are a tasty snack and can be sprinkled on cereal or dessert. Other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids are salmon, chicken and pumpkin seeds.

  1. Asparagus

Asparagus are excellent against free radicals. They are also packed with vitamin C, which protects sperm from damage and increase its motility and volume. Therefore, your partner will have more swimmers and they’ll move faster, thus increasing your chances of conception.

  1. Oysters

Oysters are one of the best sources of zinc, which help boost sperm production. They are also aphrodisiac. Around 15mg of zinc can be obtained by 50g of oysters and this will increase your fertility chances as well. Pumpkin seeds and lobsters are also good sources of zinc, in case oysters aren’t easily available.
