Three best ways to prevent Anemia during pregnancy

There are certain conditions in pregnancy that make it complicated. Deficiency of vitamins is one factor that increases the complications of pregnancy. Anemia, the condition caused due to the lack of vitamin A often causes pregnancy complications.

This condition usually occurs when pregnant women do not have enough red blood cells to carry oxygen to tissues in the body and the baby.  In the case of mild anemia, one may feel exhausted, but it becomes a serious condition when left untreated. Do you know that there are more than 400 kinds of anemia? Many different causes result in these anemic situations, but it often comes down to red blood cell generation and health.

Iron is not so tough to find in food sources. With necessary precautions, it is easy to prevent anemia during pregnancy. Check these three best ways to prevent anemia during pregnancy.

  1.  Eat iron-rich foods and folic rich foods

The form of iron available in meat products is called heme. Heme is more easily absorbed by the body when compared to iron in vegetables. If you have an anemic condition, and generally consume meat, increase the amount of meat you eat. It is the easiest way to increase the iron your body requires.

Consume iron-rich foods such as red meat, eggs, chicken, fish, dried beans and fortified grains, carrots. Folic acid-rich foods will help you recover as well. Dried beans, orange juice, and dark green leafy vegetables are a few of the folic-rich foods which will help you with anemia.

  2. Cooking with cast iron pots

As much as food contains iron, cooking in iron pots will also add up to 80 percent more iron to your food. This will help you gain more amounts of iron without additional supplements. However, this is fairly considered as an old method but yet efficient.

  3. Prenatal multivitamin and mineral supplements

If it is getting difficult to get enough iron through diet, you can take iron supplements. The prenatal vitamins and minerals usually contain both iron and folic acid required for your body. You can take them upon the advice from your doctor.

At times, supplements and diet are not enough to raise iron levels. In such a case, your doctor might suggest you few other therapies.

Reasons for periods to be late if Pregnancy test is Negative

More often than not, a missed period is an indicator of a woman’s pregnancy. However, that isn’t always correct. A woman may have a delayed or missed period but still, have a negative pregnancy test. There may be several reasons for that happening. Here are some of them: Low Hormone Levels During early pregnancy, the levels of the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) aren’t high enough for a home pregnancy test to detect. So if you’re trying to get pregnant, your negative test result on a home kit may not be correct and you might be pregnant. A woman’s cycle may keep varying and if she conceives later in the cycle, the hormone levels may be low at the time of her missed period. To rule out any complications, be sure to talk to your doctor if you miss your periods and continue to do so. Ectopic Pregnancy Although rare, an ectopic pregnancy can show up as negative on a home pregnancy test. Only about 3 percent or fewer cases of negative tests point towards an ectopic pregnancy. If you have these symptoms along with a negative result, see your doctor immediately: Severe pain in lower abdomen or on one side Dizziness or lightheadedness Bleeding or spotting Nausea and vomiting
