On the occasion of World Immunization Week, Dr. Babu S Madarkar, highlighted the urgent need to focus on adult immunization, an often-overlooked part of preventive healthcare.
For newborns, vaccines provide early protection against life-threatening infections. For adults, vaccines like influenza, pneumococcal, tetanus, hepatitis B, HPV, shingles, and COVID boosters remain equally important.
He also emphasized the “cocoon strategy”—vaccinating adults around newborns to help protect infants during their most vulnerable phase.
Vaccination is not a one-time event. It is protection that continues through every stage of life.
