fertility terms you should know while trying to conceive

For some people, having a baby may seem like a walk in the park and they conceive in the first few times of trying. However, for many, this is just not possible due to various fertility issues. Sometimes, people may not be aware of their problems which may cause them a lot more stress later on. Even though we aren’t doctors, staying informed about fertility terms and treatments is the first step towards finding a solution. Here are the top fertility terms you should know while trying to conceive:

  1. Infertility

Many people are unable to conceive naturally. This is known as infertility; when a man or woman does not have the natural ability to reproduce. The problem may lie either with the man or woman, as well as both at once. It may be caused due to a variety of factors such as chronic diseases, smoking, drinking, ovulation problems and weak sperm.

  1. Premature Ovarian Failure

This is one of the causes of female infertility. It usually happens when a woman’s ovaries stop working and producing eggs, it may also mean she has abnormal levels of estrogen before she is 40. This is a form of premature menopause. However, with premature ovarian failure, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the ovaries stop working altogether. It only means that they produce very rare and irregular periods, or they may stop working completely. A pregnancy can still occur, but with premature ovarian failure, it is very rare.

  1. Fertility Medication

One of the first treatments offered to women with an infertility issue is the use of fertility drugs. They can be prescribed for both men and women, but a majority of them are meant for women. Infertility may be caused by an irregular or non-existent ovulation cycle, which means that fewer eggs are produced and lower chances of a woman getting pregnant. Fertility drugs help increase a couple’s chances of conceiving. Talk to our experts at KIMS Cuddles to understand better about fertility medication.

  1. Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)

Assisted Reproductive Technology is any medical method which helps 2 people conceive a child. It is used in women who have trouble conceiving for one reason or another, and wish to use in vitro fertilization.

  1. In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization is when the eggs are fertilized by a man’s sperm, without there ever being any sexual intercourse involved. Technically, assisted reproductive technology is technology and medical methods which helps in vitro happen.

  1. Transvaginal Ovum Receival

This is one of the ways in which ART is used to assist in vitro fertilization. It is a very common procedure. Ovum receival refers to the collection of eggs from the female. It is done with the guidance of ultrasound and it is when a needle is inserted through the vaginal wall, into the ovarian follicle. The needle is attached to a suction device and the eggs are sucked out and brought to the laboratory.
